Congressman Bill Johnson: Ohio Housing Finance Agency Announces 2020 Housing Tax Credit Program Awards
Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement after the Ohio Housing Finance Agency Board announced recipients of the 2020 Housing Tax Credit program awards:
“I received the great news today that projects in seven counties I represent were awarded low income tax credit funds today from the Ohio Housing Finance Authority: Athens, Columbiana, Gallia, Jefferson, Lawrence, Scioto, and Washington. I supported maintaining these tax credits as part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act when many wanted to do away with them. This money is allocated to build or refurbish units for families, seniors, and those with disabilities. I’ve visited many facilities in the region that have directly benefited from these tax credits – this program works.
“Property owners claim tax credits over a 10-year period to help offset the costs associated with construction or rehabilitation of a housing development. In exchange for these credits, the owners must maintain rents that are affordable for residents with low-to-moderate incomes for no less than 30 years.”
In Ohio’s 6th Congressional District counties, those receiving awards are:
Applewood Apartments, Proctorville/Lawrence County
Buckeye Fields, Marietta Township/Washington County
First Holzer Apartments, Gallipolis/Gallia County
Heritage Place Apartments, Steubenville/Jefferson County
Kershaw Greene, Athens Township/Athens County
Meadowview Apartments, East Palestine/Columbiana County
Portsmouth Senior Lofts, Portsmouth/Scioto County
Tyler Park, Athens Township/Athens County
